Gifted: paper sculptures on tour
We can’t wait to see this exhibition, coming to the Mitchell in October! It’s a collection of ten book sculptures which were left anonymously around Edinburgh – ” in support of libraries, books, words, ideas”.
They are made from books and look amazingly intricate and astonishingly beautiful. The first one was discovered at the Scottish Poetry Library last summer. Since then, a further nine have appeared mysteriously in other literary venues. A paper cinema with a tiny Ian Rankin in the audience turned up at The Filmhouse; and a story dragon was left at the Scottish Storytelling Centre!
As well as being sculpted from books, the pieces are inspired by writers – Ian Rankin, Edwin Morgan, Arthur Conan Doyle and James Hogg.
Gifted: The Edinburgh Book Sculptures on Tour will be at the Mitchell 9-27 October and there will be two talks:
- An introduction to the sculptures and the poems which inspired them. Tuesday 9 October, 6pm, in the Moir Room.
- Guided tour of the exhibition: Robyn Marsack, Director of the Scottish Poetry Library, will take you on a guided tour of these beautiful sculptures. Wednesday 10 October, 6pm, meet in the Granville Street foyer.
