nb is the new name for newbooks magazine, a treasure trove for reading groups – news and reviews, author profiles and feedback from readers.
The latest issue has extracts of books by – among others – Richard Mason. His new book is History of a Pleasure Seeker but some of you will remember Richard talking at the Mitchell a few years ago – gosh, was it really 2005? – when his book Us came out. Richard was based in Glasgow at the time, did a lot of his research at the Mitchell, and offered to speak to our book groups.
Penguin gave us copies of the book and I recall that the Mitchell and Pollokshields groups read them and came along. Here’s Richard sitting on the marble stairs.
The May/ June nb has profiles of Margaret Forster and Jeanette Winterson, a focus on Ulysses [watch out for Ulysses popping up again as Bloomsday approaches] – and even a recipe for lemon and lime drizzle cake
Every Glasgow library has a subscription to it, so why not pop in to your local library and have a look.
