Victorious on the Battlefield

Well done to the Battlefield Book Group from Langside Library on winning the Aye Write! 2012 Battle of the Books – and to Shettleston Library Book Group for being runner up. In a closely fought contest, we heard from the following teams:

Battlefield – Eileen and Pat championed Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie – “A tribute to the transforming power of literature”

Baillieston – Christine and Alison’s choice was My Dear, I Wanted to Tell You by Louisa Young – “A story of the First World War, moving between the men in the trenches and the women who wait for them”

Mitchell – Janice and David picked So Brave, Young and Handsome by Leif Enger -“A fitting tribute to the end of an era”

Mitchell Classics – Mario and Stephan championed All the King’s Men by Robert Penn Warren – “A page turner but also deep and rewarding”

Shettleston – Francine single handedly promoted Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons – “takes eccentricity to a new level”
